Strange File Sharing Issue

Well, maybe not strange, but is to me. A client has a network with 2
workstations hardwired and 2 notebooks wireless. File and Print Sharing is
turned on on all computers (XP Pro sp2 on all). The two workstations can see
each others files fine under My Network Places, Entire Network, ...
Workgroup, computer. The two notebooks can be seen, but not accessed. The
two notebooks also can not access the workstations.

However....

If any system is accessed via IP address from Windows Explorer
(\\192.168.1.100), all of the shares on it can be seen and accessed.

What is the difference in the 2 schemes, and how do I fix the first problem
given that the second one works just fine.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

try doing a ping on the targeted computer using the UNC path e.g \\<computer
name>

if it fails, you might have a name resolution problem. try enabling netbios
over TCP/IP
