Same Username and Password, Can't Access Shared Files

I just added a new computer to the network and want to access shared files on
our network. I am using the same username and password as has been setup on
file computer. This username works on two other computers but not on the new
one. It can only access folders that have permissions set to "everyone". I
have double-checked that permissions are enabled for the user name in
question.

The new computer is a lap top using XP Home. I have two computers (including
the file computer) that use XP Pro and one other computer that uses XP Home
and they all work fine. Thanks for any help!

Simple file sharing off?

Yes, on the file computer. The new laptop that isn't being allowed access has
XP home--I don't think there is a simple file sharing option? It should work,
I have another computer with XP home that accesses the shared files fine with
the same username and password I set up on the new lap top.
One note--I did setup the users before I did all of the updates (including
to service pack 3--this is an older laptop that I did a system restore on).
Don't know if that has anything to do with it. It accesses the wireless
network just fine.
Thanks

I think I might have zeroed in on the problem. I had just simply changed the
original administrator's name to the username and password I wanted. However,
under control panel>system>advanced>user profiles, it says the only profile
is Owner. How do I get the Owner profile's name to be changed to match the
username? On the other computers that the file sharing works properly on, the
user profiles match the user accounts exactly even though I changed the
original admin user's name to the one I wanted. I guess I can just create a
new admin account, and that will probably do it...

Well that did the trick. I created a new username instead of just changing
the admin and password as I had on the other computers. Don't know why that
had worked on the other computer (the user profile had automatically changed
to match the username) but whatever works.
