stopping icon change

When I create a new icon on the desktop with a picture after a while it
changes back to default internet explorer icon. Is there some way to keep
the picture icon?

You really weren't specific, so are you making shortcuts to folders or web
sites?

Either way, rightmouse-click the icon, and under the Shortcut tab, click
Change Icon. From there you can choose from the standard XP icons, or you
can browse your computer to find a specific icon.

Some icons are saved in the temporary internet files and is deleted when the
cache is cleared. Change the icon to a .ico and save it to "My Documents" so
it won't be deleted.
