Stop error screen

Patti

Recently I reformated my desktop computer. While downloading Avira
anti-virus program the computer shut down and I got the blue stop error
screen. I've tried to reboot in safe mode and every mode in between but keep
getting the same msg.
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF894C640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
It says to run CHKDSK /F but I can't get out of the blue screen. I am
running Windows XP Home with SP1 (didn't have time to download the SP2 before
problem occurred) The computer is a clone and is 6 years old. How do I get
out of this screen? Any and all help will be appreciated.

If you cannot start the system in the last known good configuration, you
should try to start off the Windows CD. Then, you can run Chkdsk from the
Repair Console. Source follows:

Background information on Stop Error message

0x0000007B: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
Windows lost access to the system partition or boot volume during the
startup process. Typical causes: Installing incorrect device drivers
when installing or upgrading storage adapter hardware, or a virus.
