STOP: 0x0000007e - Realtek AC97 - Pavillion 512a

I have freshly installed WIN XP PRO/SP2 on an HP Pavillion 512a and when
trying to install the appropriate drivers for the Multimedia Audio Controller
I receive a stop error. I have checked all the specifications out and no
matter where I go on the web I am told that I have the correct driver, yet it
fails to install evrytime. Has anyone seen this before? I am baffled.
