I desperatelly need help.

I am running WinXP SP2 on a P4 machine with 1Gb RAM. The motherboard is the
D845GERG2 from Intel.

Every time I boot up the machine it recognises the Audio facility which is
build into the mother board. But when I install the driver (AC97) the
machine crashes and I get a message saying that windows was stopped due to an
error to prevent any damage......"portcls.sys - Address ED44BB46D base at
ED4BB000 Datestamp 41107f13".

I can't get any sound out of the machine and appart from that it is quite
stable. I have tried removing the multimedia codecs and reinstalling but the
same problem comes back. Please help.
