Dear All,

My PC is freezing on startup i.e. the first black screen
comes up and freezes, nothing boots.

Sometimes I get the screen to load Windows in safe mode
or normal etc. and it keeps going to it. Occasionally I
get a blue screen (something to do with physical memory)
but it flashes up quickly and then reboots itself. I
have tried re-installing Windows XP from scratch and
still have the problem. I also attempted to use register
repair tools but to no avial.

Thanks in advance for any help,

You need to go into your BIOS(bacic input/output services)
(computer BIOS's are different, some you access by pumping
the esc key at boot, some the F1 key, some the F2 key)
(start at esc, then work up the F keys till you get the
BIOS screen, you need to change the settings that
restart,after failure-or crash or dump,whatever yours
is.Set it to stay on after (event).Think it's under the
boot tab. Then the blue screen BSOD (blue screen of death)
will stay on after a crash, and you'll be able to get the
info off of it to post back here,or check the MS KB
articles for the fix for it.If you added hardware lately
you may want to check the device manager to see if it's
working properly.

Well, I assume your on a another computer. I would
download dignostic utility from your hard drive
manufacturer and run it. You may have a defective hard
drive. If you don't know the manafacture of the hard
drives name and hard drive number/name You can call or
look up your computer manufacturer and ask what hardrive
manufacture and hardrive you have. If you get on to this
error prone compture backup what you can and download
diagnostic utilty to scan your drive. >-----Original
