Pauline

Hi
I'm only a novice but since I upgraded to win XP i don't
know how to stop programmes starting up automatically
when logging on eg like messenger. Can some one please
advise where to lookand how to stop.
Thanks

Pauline,

There are quite a few ways, here are 3

Click Start - Programs - Startup. There may be programs in here and to
prevent them starting drag the shortcuts out onto the desktop.
For the likes of Messenger start it and go to Tools - Options - General and
remove the tick against 'run on Windows start'
Click Start - Run and type MSCONFIG in the run box. When the utility starts
go to the startup tab and you have the option to stop programs running on
startup. Be careful with this last method you may inadvertantly srop your
virus checker for example.
