Start/ Explore/ Status Bar

No matter how many times I right click on start/ explore I only get a
half screen. I've stretched the bloody thing till I'm blue in the face
and ticked the status bar endless times but it always reverts to a
half screen without the status bar. Ditto with using tools and folder
options. Most frustrating.

I've IE6 SP2 with all updates possible.

Clicking on the explorer icon from the start menu or desktop gives me
a full screen with the task bar. What's happening? Thanks.

Many thanks for the info. It didn't work but thanks.

Hi Andy,

Simply resetting the folder settings values helps. This resets the Window
position etc.

Your view settings or customizations for a folder are lost or incorrect:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=813711

Windows can remember the folder settings for view state, window position,
sort order, column information, folder type, status bar setting, toolbar
toggles, and search results.

Hi Andy,

Two checkpoints:

1. You may try the advice in KB813711 after ending the Explorer.exe process
via Task Manager

2. See if "StatusBarOther" is set to "1" in this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Ramesh,

Thanks for the info. "StatusBarOther" wasn't in the registry so I
entered a new key under MAIN. I've got the status bar back but
unfortunately still have only half a screen when opened as above.

I also tried KB813711 with no effect.

Right-click, Properties on whatever you are clicking on.
Perhaps it is a desktop shortcut with Run: Normal window
specified?

Yes, but nothing. I got the status bar back but only it still opens as
a half page. I can't reinstall from the disc as it's an OEM install
and the supplied discs will take me back to a virgin start.

I might get a full page but I wouldn't have much data on the screen
though backedup the programs (and updates) aren't.

Andy,

Have you tried the KB article after closing explorer.exe

Andy,

Close all folder windows. Right-click Start and choose Explore. Maximize the
window. Press and hold the CTRL key and close the window using [X] icon at
the top. If that does not help, create a System Restore point and follow the
comprehensive repair method suggested by David Candy, in this thread:

http://groups.google.co.in/[email protected]

Note that you may lose all the folder customizations that you've done so
far.
