Word 2007 - Status Bar Disappeared

D

Dasha

Does anyone know how to get the status bar at the bottom of Word to come back?

There is no longer a View -> Toolbars option and I can't find any reference
to the status bar anywhere.

I am in "print layout" view. If I start Word in safe mode, the status bar
will appear, but if I open Word normally, it disappears again.

I've clicked everywhere there is to click and still no "status bar"
anywhere. Does anyone know where Microsoft hid how to turn it off and on?

Thanks.

There is no facility in Word 2007 to turn the status bar off and on -- it
should always be displayed. The fact that it's not displayed except in safe
mode points to a damaged registry key. You need to start the registry editor
(regedit.exe) and rename or delete the key

\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

and then restart Word. This is described in more detail in the articles
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm and
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/DataKeySettings.htm.
Unfortunately these articles haven't yet been updated for Word 2007; in
particular, the method for saving the options settings in a macro doesn't
work any more.
