Word 2007 status bar how to show vertical distance in inches

Dave

In Word 2007, how do you change the line number display to vertical inches in
the status bar? And, the same with columns to horizontal inches in the status
bar.

Thanks

Right-click the status bar. The menu gives you a large selection of things to
display, and one of them is "Vertical Page Position". (The measurement units
depend on your selection of measurement units in the Options dialog.) You can
have this instead of, or in addition to, the line number. Note that the vertical
page position is measured from the top edge of the page, not from the top text
margin.

There is no provision to show horizontal position in inches; for that you have
to look at the horizontal ruler. If you hold down the Alt key while
clicking/dragging on the ruler, it shows the measurements from the margins (and
also, unfortunately, sets a tab stop when you release the mouse button).
