Status Bar

I can't for the life of me find out how to keep the status bar appearing. Sometimes it appears and other times (usually) it doesn't! I've spent over an hour doing searches in every area of Microsoft and can't find an answer!!! Do I REALLY have to manually do on each web page?!? I want my status bar! Please help!

I have XP Pro and IE 6 with SP1
