Standby failure and MacAfee disabled

I have Windows XP home edition on a new notebook. All is wonderful except
that after I instal Quicken Home & Business 2000 (which worked fine on a
prior notebook under Windows 98), when I enter standby either by closing the
lid or timing out two things happen. Firstly an error message indicating
inability to enter standby because of a modem driver deficiency, and secondly
the disabling of MacAfee virusscan. Both problems are resolved by rebooting
but recur on re-entering standby. Both problems also disappear after
uninstalling the problem software. The Q H&B 2000 of course is no longer
supported and I cannot get the Intuit people to respond. It p's me right off
to think of buying a current version of Quicken from a supplier who has
apparently abandoned prior versions.

Any thoughts as to how to fix this myself?
