No standby when laptop lid closes.

Hey all, i've been having a few difficulties and i was wondering if
you could help me out.
Problem: When i close the laptop lid, the computer will not turn on
standby.
Possible causes:
Settings: I went into power options, and set the system to
'standby' when 'i close the lid of my laptop' - so all good, no
problem.
Sample.exe? When i shutdown, Sample.exe stops the machine from
shutting down, i have to click "end now" for the system to shut down,
otherwise nothing will occur. When i run hijack this - Sample.exe does
not appear? I have up to date virus scanners and friewalls (i thought
ZoneAlarm Firewall) might be affecting it, so i turned if off, and
closed the lid on my computer - still nothing.
Sensor: After alot of "googling" everyone said "press the small
button" on the computer that recognises the lid is closed. My laptop
doesnt have one because i believe the sensor is built into the frame
of the laptop.
What else: I just wanted to mention it has worked fine for the
last 2.5 years. Every time i closed the lid, it would always standby
after about 4 seconds.

So guys, that was the process that i have done to date.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does the Sample.exe appears in Task Manager?
Can you End Task it manually?
Does it reappear after a few mintues even after End Task?

If your answers are yes then you can try the following article where you can
End Task those Processes or you can spwares running in background which are
causing the problem and then can remove them from startup so next time they
do not create any hazzels.

On many systems, I have solved the Startup problems, Unknown processes, New
Folder.exe virus and Yahoo Mail.Exe virus through those small applications
called: AutoRuns and Processexplorer. Atleast you may have some idea about
this Sample.exe.

Hope this help, let us know!

Thankyou RajKohi for your help. Ive been able to find out the cause of
the problem.
Although i still cant find out what "sample" is, ive worked out the
problem.

Its Zone Alarms Fault! ZClient.exe is set to "access deny" - which
therefore stops standby from closing this process, therefore pausing
the whole system. I worked this out because when i clicked standby
nothing happened, but as soon as a closed the process, and clicked
logoff, it forced the computer into standby, then when it 'awoke' and
logged off.

So although ive worked out what the problem is, im not sure how to
stop this from occuring. I'll get a new firewalll (replace Zone
Alarm). Any new suggestions?
Thanks again RajKohi
