i went through the procedure of cleaning all printer
drivers, and the spooler still has to be manually started
for printers to show up...

what next?

Scott

Is the procedure the one at
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm?

1. Click Start, right click on My Computer, select Manage
2. navigate through Applications and Services to Services
3. make sure that the entry for Print Spooler has "Automatic" under Startup
Type
If it doesn't, right click on Print Spooler, select Properties and set the
Startup Type: to Automatic.

Are there any entries in the System Event Log relating to the printer or the
spooler?
