About 2 months ago I installed Roxio Media Creator 7 with
no problems. I run it daily with no problems. About two
days ago, when I performed a copy of a desktop shortcut to
a toolbar, I got the following sequence:
1. A window with "Windows Installer" in the title bar. A
message "Preparing to install."
2. A window with "Roxio Easy Media Creator 7" in the title
bar. A message "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio
Easy Media Creator 7."
3. Another window with "Roxio Easy Media Creator 7" i the
title bar. The message "The feature you are trying to use
is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not
available. Insert the 'Roxio Media Creator 7' disk and
click OK."
(At this point I clicked CANCEL)
4. Another window with "Roxio Easy Media Creaotr 7" in the
title bar. The message "Error 1706. No valid source could
be found for product Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. The
Windows Installer cannot continue."
This sequence ALWAYS occurs at least twice when I attempt a
desktop copy, and one day it occurred 5 times in
succession. It only happens (so far) when I do a copy on
the desktop. Copies in Word and Excel work without incident.
I updated Norton Anti-Virus and ran a full computer scan.
Nothing. I updated Ad-Aware and Spybot and ran them.
Nothing. Incidentally, after I finally get rid of the
installer windows, the intended copy works correctly.
What's that all about?? What triggers Windows Installer
to execute? I can't even find what appears to be a
Windows Installer ".exe" file, although there are a series
of apparently executable files in my Windows Installer
folder, one for each previously installed product,
including the Roxio installation.
