My speakers work fine but when I plug in my headphone it doesn't play on the
headphones but the speakers still play. It's like my headphone jack doesn't
pick up my headphones and i have tryed a few different headphones. Can any
body help?

Where is this 'headphone jack'?
This sounds like a hardware issue.

It is on the left side on my laptop between a mircophone jack and a computer
card entry port. Do you think the headphone jack in broken?

Either that or your plugging the headphones into the jack for external
speakers.

Huh? This is a laptop...line out (~1V p-p) is all you're
gonna get...

Which laptop jack? You need to check with the laptop's manufacturer's
web site so as to see if there is a headphone jack, which port it is
and if the port is not Digital only.

So, you have a laptop with an audio power amplifier
(> 5W per channel) in it?

Link, please.

It's a Dell 600m, purchased nearly 4 years ago. Still pluggin' along,
stereo music blasting out of the speakers borrowed from the 4600 that I
bought at the same time, 24/7.

Well, I'll be darned. It's only 2W/ch. but they must be
routing the internal speaker audio out the 3.5mm jack instead
of intercepting the line level before it hits the PA as most
laptops do.

I would have thought nobody would do this in order to
save power.

Thanks for the link.
