Speakers Not Working

I have a laptop & all of the sudden, the sound stopped working. How can I fix
it??

when i press the mute button the volume thing pops up & if i press mute again
after that, then it mutes.

Never mind what happens on the screen; does the sound start working?

Have you installed the audio controller drivers?

No, the sound does not start working when I press the mute button ... and ...
I've had this laptop for almost 2 yrs, I don't know whether or not I
installed the audio controller drivers.
