Speaker volume problem

Shane Smith

The left or right (usually the left) speaker volume randomly resets itself
to the lowest value giving the impression that a speaker has failed. I have
been able to replicate this problem on my Toshiba Satellite 2450 laptop
running xp home and also on my homebuilt desktop running xp pro, usually by
opening the audio properties and playing some .wav files and adjusting
various things like the balance and setting the speaker volume at maximum
using the sliders found at "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties > Volume >
Speaker Volume..."

Is this a known bug in xp?

Hi Shane,

Make sure that your audio card is fully seated in the slot, pull it out and
reseat it. If this doesn't take care of the problem, you may need to replace
the card.
