Volume control crackles

You know how the volume control on an old radio crackles when you change
the volume? Well, my Windows XP seems to be on the "olde radio" category
- when I move the volume slider up and down I get crackles, but only
from the left-hand speaker.

Bizarre, eh? Any chance I'll find a cure for it?

You can buy cans of stuff to spray into the volume control, but where
would I find it (or where would I get virtual volume control spray?

Places like Radio Shack sell cans of 'high dielectric" (non-conducting) spray
to clean electrical contact points. The place to use it will probably be
where the wire to the speaker connects to the left speaker. It would probably
not help the keyboard.

Spray the corner of the monitor where the volume slider appears.

Spray the corner of the monitor where the volume slider appears.

That was the answer - thanks ;-)

Rebooting while it took effect also seemed to help. Maybe the screen
isn't very porous.
