SP4 Error

B

Bill

I am getting an error when I am trying to install the SP4
for Windows 2000 server. The system has 1.5gb memory and
is a Dell PowerEdge 4400. The system is running Exchange
2000 with SP3. All my other servers had no problems when
installing SP4.

The error:

Required dll not found - sp4iis.
Setup failed to remove ism.dll script mappings.
Service Pack setup will abort.

My other exchange server did not have this problem when
upgrading to SP4.

Do you have IIS disabled in services.msc?
If so start it and try the upgrade again.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the posting. I understand you still receive the same error
after disabling IIS.

To fix this error completeyl, let's uninstall IIS completely and then
install SP4. After you remove IIS, this error won't occur.

After you install SP4 successfully, you can then reintall IIS after that.

Sincerely,

Cherry Qian

Hi,

I am not sure I want ti uninstall IIS. My server is
running Exchange 2000 and my clients are using OWA. How
is this going to effect my OWA after uninstalling and re-
installing IIS? This is a critical production server. Is
their not another way to correct this problem?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Alberto,

Thank you for the posting. I undertsand your concern on uninstalling IIS.

We performed further research on this issue. We checked the error message
again. For your convenience, i am providing you with the following
suggestions:

Step1:

This behavior can occur if the current IIS (Internet Information Services)
metabase is corrupted. To solve the problem, restore a backup copy by using
the Restore action in the Internet Services Manager program. If no backup
exists, please manually restore the metabase by referring to the following
article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=234429

After restoring the IIS metabase, restart the computer and then try to
install Windows 2000 SP4.

Step2:

If the problem still occurs, follow these steps exactly:

1. Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Services
Manager.

2. Right-click your computer name, click Properties.

3. In the Master Properties windows, select WWW Service, and then
click Edit.

4. Click the Home Directory tab, click Configuration.

5. Click the .htr entry in the Application Mappings box, click
Remove, and then choose Yes when prompted.

6. Double-click all other entries in the Application Mappings box,
click to select the "Check that file exists" option, and then click OK.

7. Close Internet Services Manager and restart the computer.

8. Try to install Windows 2000 SP4 again.

Step3:

If the problem persists, uninstall IIS via the Add/Remove Programs tool in
Control Panel and then install Windows 2000 SP4.

Hope the above information and suggestion helps and answers your question.
If anything is unclear or anything further we can help with from our side,
please let me know and we will try as much as we can to assist you.

Sincerely,
