SP2- no network connection

I (unfortunately) had automatic updates enabled on my daughters computer. It
installed SP2 and now she has no network connection.

The computer is a homebuilt AMD system with her connection through a Linksys
BEFSR81 router (hardwire connection, not wireless).

Even with the WinXP firewall turned off, the router will not assign an IP
address. The other computers in the house work fine.

I know I can remove SP2 through the control panel, but since it's there, I
would like to see if I can configure it correctly and decide if I want to
use it on my other computers.

Any ideas?

Try deleting your current internet connection and redoing it.......Do that
through the Control Panel

Hope this helps.

Is the nic card working in device manager?
What IP address is the computer getting?
Have you taken the whole network down, including the router and modem, then
turn each device back on? Modem first, then router, then computers.
Have you tried reinstalling tcp/ip?

Thanks all...got it.

The install of SP2 had unticked "automatically detect settings" in Network
Connections and disabled the Local Area Connection. Putting the checkmark
back and (right click) (enable) the Local Area Connection restored the
network.
Guess I was too busy looking for something complicated to check to obvious
first.
