Wireless Network Connection

Hello,

I used to use a wireless network card (Linksys WUSB11 Ver 2.6) with a
wireless router (Linksys BEFW11S4) and everything worked fine. I moved and
connected my pc to the modem directly at the new house and then installed
SP2, now it is eight months later and I want to reconnect my wireless but
when I do the card shows installed and the wireless networking is setup but I
do not get a wireless connection under Network Connections and cannot connect
to the Router at all! I have done the firmware upgrade for the router and
upgraded the drivers for the WUSB11 per the Linksys site. The router is
working, I have a Linksys wireless game port attached to my PS2 and can
connect with it. Any suggestions?

Disconnect the cable from the router, unplug the power
to the router, wait 2 minutes, reconnect the cable to the
router, then return power to the router.

I have similar setup however I had to get rid of the WUSB11 as it was unreliable with XP. There is a lot of documentation in NG & at lynksys support. The final solution after trying what was suggested by Carey is to uninstall the drivers and utility for the USB NIC, reboot, wipe old folders from HD and reinstall clean. About Carey's suggestion, if you had altered the defaults in the router (admin ID, password, internal IPs) and setup WEP and disabled broadcasting. Doing a reset may have changed everything back to Linksys Defaults and that includes the SSID.

I don't think this is a problem with the router, I have already reset it to
factory defaults and it is working with my wireless gaame port. The problem
is that Windows XP does not show the "Wireless Connection" under the "Network
Connections" section. The only connections that appear are the Local Area
Connections for my NIC (Which I have disabled and rebooted to see if it is
causing a problem) and the 1394 Connection for the Firewire port. I have
gone into services and verified that wireless networking service is started
automatically, and setup the wireless networking configuration exactly as the
Linksys setting are setup.

I will give this a try. I was trying to avoid buying new equipment. I used
the WUSB for about a year before I moved and never had any problems except
having to power cycle the router every couple of days, I though maybe it was
related to installing the SP2 that caused it to stop working. Thanks for the
Info. Bob

Does your wireless NIC appear in Device Manager under the Networking
Adapters category ? Be sure to tic the View option "Show Hidden Devices:"
If it is shown grayed out, it's become a Phantom - Uninstall it and reboot.

I might point out, one of there solutions was disabling wireless zero services and using the utility from linksys. That became a confusing mess if you put the settings into the NIC properties as well. Finally, I bought the WMP11v4 PCI NIC the only draw back is all of Linksys equipments is definitely a created for MS windows environment as there are no Linux drivers (I have a dual boot system).

Hey Great It WORKS!!! I had to disable the wireless zero services and use the
WLAN Monitor provided by Linksys. I tried using it before but never disabled
the zero config. Thank You for the assistance, I will get a new card if I
have problems later on, but I can at least use it for now. Thank Again for
the help. Bob
