sp2 lost icons

I've installed SP2 and lost icon associations: all MS products (Word, Excel,
Publisher, etc.) display a 'generic' icon (e.g., on the desktop, in Windows
Explorer, as e-mail attachments), Adobe Reader 6.0 does likewise . . . Any
hints? Do I have to reinstall everything after installing SP2?

This does happen from time to time to Office icons and is not specific to
SP2. I would have to dig out my notes on that, as I generally don't work
Office issues extensively. For the meantime, run the edit on line 4 here:

Along with doing a roll back on your display drivers, increasing icon cache
and lowering hardware acceleration. Good luck and keep us posted!
