A weird problem for your reference - HTML files icon lost

Hi,

This is a weird problem that I recently encountered and solved after a clean
installation of Windows SP2.

Toward the end of entire installation process, I found out HTML files saved
to local lost its icon (the IE icon) and been replaced with a generic icon.

And of course, I went to the Windows Explorer to see if the file type has
been changed since I had installed many applications at this point, and
nothing was wrong. I changed the icon again and file type to be associated
with IE and no difference.

In any case, I finally found the following solution from Google, and it
turned out to be the fault of Adobe GoLive 6.0 which changed the registry
key and it would not make any difference by changing the settings of Windows
Explorer. It has to change the registry back to IE.

The link can be found at:

Strange enough and as someone indicated in the discussion, it may not always
happen. I did install Adobe GoLive on other systems and the older one and
did not have the problem.

But this time, it is a clean installation and installed it along with other
Adobe applications before Office 2003 and FP, and I wonder if that makes the
difference.

Anyway, as said, it's a weird problem and hope it will benefit you from
encountering similar problems or helping others.

You know, I see some oddball questions and I'm going to flag this (I never
delete anything) and I want to thank you for your findings and for your
reporting this. There may, and probably will, come a time when this is asked
in here and if I'm lucky enough to remember this I'll be sure to point them
back at your post. Thanks again.
