SP2 attachment manager?

N

I often send zip files between my work and home PCs (on a DAILY basis). I
was using Winzip 9 and had no problems. I recently upgraded to Winzip 10 and
now have to deal with the attachment manager. Winzip 10 is painfully slow
going through the attachment manager (and pops up errors on batch files). If
I save the zip file and then right click | properties | unblock, Winzip
returns to its former speed glory.

Thats all fine and dandy, but I do this on a daily basis, and find it
annoying that I now need to do an additional 10+ steps to open my zip file.
OE opens files in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

I don't want to totally turn off security, but rather tell OE to open
attachments in trusted mode, or some other method.

Might just go back to Winzip 9, because taking 2 to 3 minutes to open a zip
file vs. 30 seconds is just not acceptable.

Don't even SUGGEST winrar! :)

Why are you using Winzip anyway?
(Why not the built in functionality in Windows XP?)

You are using 3rd party software and are unhappy with the way it functions.
Why are you even posting about this here? Contact the manufacturer you
"paid" for the software. Of course, if your copy is a bit "grey", I guess
you're stuck.

I'd be curious, what are you sending home on a daily basis from your office
?

And this is helpful HOW?

I didn't ask about a Winzip problem, I asked how to disable the attachment
manager or make it trust Outlook Express attachments. Last time I checked
the attachment manager and Outlook Express were part of Windows XP SP2.

Either way, I resolved my problem by tweaking a WINDOWS setting, thank you
very much.

And the problem with Winrar is?

I have found Winrar to be a whole lot more reliable and easier to use
than Winzip.

You came to a Windows XP General group complaining about something a new
update to a new third party application (Not Windows XP) was dong to you..
And that if you went back to the older version of said third party
application, everything worked fine.

You are in a Windows XP Newsgroup.
That is a Windows XP oriented solution. Your problem is with a THIRD PARTY
piece of software - complain to the correct people.

That is a Windows XP oriented solution. Your problem is with a THIRD
PARTY piece of software - complain to the correct people.

And before you say you asked about a Windows Feature and not WinZip - let's
quote a few things from your OP.

"I was using Winzip 9 and had no problems."
"I recently upgraded to Winzip 10 and now have to deal with the attachment
manager."
"Might just go back to Winzip 9.."

And in reality - you inferred, never ASKED a question.

You seemed to have a gripe with the way a Third Party application (WinZip
10) integrated/worked with Windows XP - where the previous version of the
third party application (WinZip 9) was not integrated/working with it in
that way - thus the way you wanted. You told the story quite well. It was
all statements and and possibly implied question - if you want to read it
this way.. Like you were thinking in type instead of silently - trying to
decide what to do and if the effort was worth it.

Your easiest solution is not to use Winzip.. It is to use the built in
functionallity of Windows XP for ZIP files. It has most of the general
features if all you are doing is zipping/sending/unzipping files - you can
even password protect them if you desire. Admittedly - I use Winzip for
many things - like updating ZIP files and the likes - but that can mostly be
done with the built in Windows XP compression utility as well.

Now - if you want to use Winzip - then you need to learn to use it. It's
always been that way with any tool. You have to learn about and become
wiser than the tool you are using.

Now - given that - have you even looked at the policies associated with the
Attachment manager?
Start --> RUN
GPEDIT.MSC
User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components -->
Attachment Manager

Maybe you can tweak those to your liking.

Why did you try to fix something that was not broken? Remove winzip 10.
Use winzip 9.
