Hello,

I've posted here before but because these are popular groups I have a hard
time finding the original post. So, if you heard this before I'm sorry but I
could use your help.

When I have installed SP2 the last two weeks, after start up, my desktop
screensaver comes up, but my desktop icons do not. I can not do anything
else. Trust me I've tried.
So, instead I have to restart in safe mode and remove SP2.

I have had SP2 before and would like to use it again.

Any solutions?

1. See this page:

What to Know Before Downloading/Installing SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

Especially the "Check your computer for unwanted software" section.

2. Before attempting to install SP2 again, run a /thorough/ check for and
remove any/all hijackware.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

I would not install SP2 again until your HijackThis log gets a clean bill of
health by an expert, Bloke.
