I have tried to play a music cd, but there is no sound from neither my
internal speakers nor my external stereo speakers. Have checked drivers but
all are properly installed and I get a message that my device is working
properly. When I try to play a music cd, I get a message with a red cross
which reads: "Windows cannot acces the specified device. You might not have
the appropriate permission to access this item". Please help!!!

If you can access Control Panel > Sound, then check the settings there to
make sure your output (Speakers, SPDIF) you are configured to use is enabled.
You are running as Administrator? If this doesn't work, review your User
Account Controls for proper settings. You also find that in Control Panel.
If none of this does the trick, post back.
