At times, when I start my computer, the sound is not working. If I shutdown
and restart, the sound is ok. Is there something wrong with the sound card?

The first thing to try in such circumstances is to go to the manufacturer's
site for the card and download then install the latest driver software.

The sound card was installed in the new computer and it works fine most of
the time, so I think the driver is ok, just sometimes it does not load.

Drivers that are supplied on CD along with the hardware are not always the
most recent release so it is always a good idea to get the latest version
from the web.

As an example of this, I have recently installed an Nvidia MX440 graphics
card and have had no end of problems with my OS crashing. However, I
downloaded the latest driver and, hey presto, all nice and stable.
