So you assume removing (not deleting) Service Pack 3 is the proper
solution? heh
Instead - perform the following...
- Use Belarc Advisor (free download -
http://www.belarc.com) to figure out
your sound device/card manufacturer and download/install the latest sound
card device driver for your operating system.
Angela:
As you've heard, it's quite unlikely the problem you're experiencing is due
to the SP3 install of some months ago since you've indicated this problem
has only recently arisen.
And we're assuming you do have a sound card installed in your system, right?
It's not "onboard sound" provided by your motherboard, right? Know the
make/model of your sound card?
You've checked to determine your speakers are properly connected?
And there's nothing in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager
that indicates a possible problem with your "Sound, video,...controllers",
right? Your sound card is listed as one of the devices?
Do this...
Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
On the Properties window that opens - most likely the Volume tab will be the
default...
Assuming you know the name of the sound card installed in your system - is
it correctly listed just beneath the Volume tab?
Is the "Device volume" slider set all the way to the "High" mark?
Is the Mute button checked? If checked, uncheck it.
Click the Advanced button. All the sliders in that window set to the highest
(or near-highest) Volume?
Close the window and then click the Speaker Volume button. All the sliders
set to High?
After clicking OK, click on the Audio tab of the Properties window.
Is your sound card correctly shown as the "Default device"?
