Deleting service pack 3

Can I delete service pack 3 without causing a problem? I was happy with
service pack 2 and the people that built my computer told me there was no
need to keep updating it. But I didn't realize I had enabled automatic
updates so I got it. Now suddenly months later my sound card isn't
working--I'm not getting any sound from my computer on movies I've saved or
audio files. The only sound is the windows sound when I restart my computer.

So you assume removing (not deleting) Service Pack 3 is the proper solution?
heh

Instead - perform the following...

- Use Belarc Advisor (free download - http://www.belarc.com) to figure out
your sound device/card manufacturer and download/install the latest sound
card device driver for your operating system.

I'm afraid the people that built your PC are giving you v.bad info, critical
updates should always be installed
However you should set winupdate to only install critical updates, it maybe
that you installed a MS driver update. Driver updates should only be
obtained from the particular manufacturers site, in your case your sound
card manufacturers site
Driver updates are only needed if the update cures a problem or gives added
functionality

You say Sp3 was installed months ago and you have auto updates on.
So when did the sound die in relation to SP3. If it died the next time
you turned your PC on, I'd agree it was SP3, but if it took another
month, it could be some unrelated update or even something you did.
SP3 was released in April +/-. I'd try to fix it. I'd follow
Shenan's suggestions.

Angela:
As you've heard, it's quite unlikely the problem you're experiencing is due
to the SP3 install of some months ago since you've indicated this problem
has only recently arisen.

And we're assuming you do have a sound card installed in your system, right?
It's not "onboard sound" provided by your motherboard, right? Know the
make/model of your sound card?

You've checked to determine your speakers are properly connected?

And there's nothing in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager
that indicates a possible problem with your "Sound, video,...controllers",
right? Your sound card is listed as one of the devices?

Do this...

Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
On the Properties window that opens - most likely the Volume tab will be the
default...
Assuming you know the name of the sound card installed in your system - is
it correctly listed just beneath the Volume tab?
Is the "Device volume" slider set all the way to the "High" mark?
Is the Mute button checked? If checked, uncheck it.
Click the Advanced button. All the sliders in that window set to the highest
(or near-highest) Volume?
Close the window and then click the Speaker Volume button. All the sliders
set to High?
After clicking OK, click on the Audio tab of the Properties window.
Is your sound card correctly shown as the "Default device"?

It has been spoofing me for months. I’ve even considered it might be NASS.

Here are the posting details of "it" and myself.
