Sound problem on startup

ok this is strange -

when I power up and the Windows Start sound plays, it is so scratchy it's
almost painful - I mean really bad. After start if I play the sound - just
fine, thank you very much. At exit - fine. Majority of other sounds, music,
etc play perfectly.

Restart system - scratchy start sound.

Anyone have any ideas?

Only thing I can think of is that the sound system is not initializing
properly in time for the sound.

I would think that all the crap that normally loads with Windows is
interferring with either the reading of the file from you hard drive or the
playback program is being outcompeted by other higher priority proccesses.
My computer also does this from time to time.

You could try reducing the number of programs that automatically loads when
Windows starts, or you could try to resample the sound file to a lower
quality in the hopes that it will load faster.

It's likely because your system is loading tons of stuff at the same
time while it trys to read the sound file off the hard drive, and the
sound file read is being intermittently interrupted by the system
reading other files off the drive at the same time.

ok, those all make sense. Is it possible to control the order in which
various programsdrivers load?
