Just installed XP on my computer --- have no sound,
checked all my cables and power cord. System shows my
sound card.

any ideas what to try next???

Did you install an upgrade or the full version. Have you tried reinstalling your soung card drivers? Maybe a compatibility issue with XP.

Download nex XP specific drivers and install them. Double click on the
loudspeaker icone in the systray and make sure the volume controls are all
up to max.

If you are using a sound blaster sound card then you have a lot of driver updates to deal with, it seems so complex to me that I just gave up, and am going to purchase a new sound card xp compatable. I have checked the windows compatibility list and sound blaster should work after driver updates. Check your bios settings and make sure your card is able to be recognized. This is the best I can do with the information you have provided
Good luck.
