sound problems

Hi, i have a hp 2.533 ghz p4 with 256 mb. ram and a 80
gb. 7200 rmp hdd, i'm only takin up about 10 gb. at this
time but i decided the other day to install a 2 year old
western digital 7 gb hdd 5400 rpm. i use this to hold all
my mp3 and about 5 gb. of it is full. When i play the
mp3's through winamp everything works just peachy but
after listening to music non-stop for about 45 min. or so
all my sound will just go away, even after i close all of
my open apps, but if i log off my name and right back on
it works just fine. Does anyone have a suggestion for me
at all? thanks all.

I have a bit different problem but in a way the result is the same:
I am using XP Pro. Sometime after few our of work the Wave type sounds are
not audible while I can still listen to music or other sound sources.
