Sound Problem with Media player and Phone dialer

My sound is working. That is I hear the clicks and anouncements.
When I use the phone dialer I hear the dial tone and hear it dialing but
then it goes silent and to hear the phone I have to pick up the recever.

My Windows media was working but now there is no sound.

I have reloaded the sound driver. What elese can I do to trouble shoot?

Are you sure that you are following all Dialing rules for the location you
are calling and/or calling from such as dailing 9's, 1's, etc?

Yes I have checked the dialing rules. If they were wrong I would hear the
error message. Any ideas on what I can check

The modem has been "told" to only "enable speaker" while "dialing". If
you want it to be otherwise, look up the settings/commands for your
modem to change it. The command would be then be inserted as part of the
"initialization" in the modem settings. Your modem manual will be useful
at this point. What happened to "Windows media" I couldn't say. If you
mean Media Player, have you tried reinstalling it?
