I am requesting help to use pc as a speakerphone. I am able to access phone
dialer through (run - dialer) but I am not able to make a short cut of the
phone dialer. When I dialed to a number I cannot hear anything else and the
other side also cannot hear me but on the phone dialer windows it displays
"connected". My PC has all the necessary hardware such as microphone,
speaker and sound card. OS is windows XP Pro SP II with all the latest
updates. Please help me.

Speakerphone functions are normally part of the *modem* feature set.
Using the PC's speaker and microphone usually means you want to use Skype or
similar. These are two separate systems and two different billing points -
POTS (plain old telephone system) and IP Phone.

If you could please clarify which one you mean. If you mean using the
ordinary telephone system, you may need to investigate modems with voice
and speakerphone functions. You may already have one, but you'll need to
check.

Hello Patrick Keenan,

Thank you for your clear explanation.

I have been trying to use POTS. I checked my modem and found that my modem
is not supported Speakerphone because it is "half duplex".

You'll find that some older sound cards are also half-duplex, and as such
won't work with Skype. Fortunately, such things are rarer now.

Hi Patrick,

Thanx very much for that.

i have the same problem Freewill has: i am using the ordinary telephone
system but can't hear a thing. My headset is in good working order .So,i'm
guessing it's the modem. The following are some of my modem properties:

'CXT AC-Link modem for Intel

driver version:6.1.18.0

'This device is working properly.

If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the
troubleshooter.'

are u able 2 tell whether this modem has the voiceand speakerphone functions
needed to use phone dialer successfully?

many thanx,
maggie
