Sound only through headphones

I started using headphones while editing video. I lost the external speaker
sound, restarted, and it came back. I used the headphones again, longer this
time, and lost the external sound again. I have checked my settings (they're
fine), restarted, and tried the troubleshooter (which was no help). I don't
think I'd need to update my driver, since I haven't changed or installed new
software.

Can anyone give me suggestions?

What soundcard and video editing package did you use. You will probably find
when you used the headphones the speakers were muted but not unmuted when
you unplugged them. You say you checked the settings but are you sure. If
you haven't changed anything its hard to see what else it could be. If you
repost with make soundcard and video editing app used someone might be able
to tell you exactly where to look

I have checked my speaker and volume settings several times, run the trouble
shooting steps three or four times and restarted many times. I updated my
driver as well. I have a Conexant AC-Link sound card and was doing my
editing in Vegas Video. I am still hearing only through the headphone jack
in my laptop.

Ron asked you whether you are plugging your headphones into
your speakers or if you are plugging directly into the
computer in the back, or perhaps directly into the computer
from a side or front jack.

You completely missed that aspect of his response.

The headphone jack may be disconnecting the speakers when the HPs are
plugged in and this could be normal. If that is the case and the
speakers do not come back on after removing the HPs then there may be a
defect in the jack, or this may be by design. What make/model of lapyop
is it? You may need to contact the maker for technical assistance/advice.
