Some updates could not be installed (KB948881)

Auto update gives this message:

"Some updates could not be installed (KB948881)"

The yellow shield keeps appearing Updates are ready for your computer.
After the auto download and install the message is displayed again: Some
updates could not be installed (KB948881)

I'm running XP Pro SP2 My PC appears to be working fine apart
from not being able to install this update.

What can I do to get the update to install?

Thanks

I would recommend that you configure Updates to ONLY tell you that
updates are available.

When you see the icon, go to Windows Update from within IE via:

Tools | Windows Update

Choose CUSTOM install

Go for it.

WARNING: do NOT choose to install driver updates.

I already have that setting "Notify me but don't automatically download and
install them" Then I choose Custom install once the update is downloaded.

Tried it several times still with the message "Some updates could not be
installed (KB948881)"

What can I do to get the update to install?

Thanks

I've never had that problem so I don't know what to do.

You should try asking it in the Windows Update support group:

Are you rebooting after it? FWIW my log shows that it wasn't necessary
but it looks to me that it might help complete the update. However, I didn't check
at the time to see how the modules were replaced or when they updated ones
actually became active.

How big is your KB948881.log? Post the last iteration of it to help generate more ideas.
