Some of my outgoing e-mails are not being sent, why?

Some, not all, of my outgoing e-mails are not being delivered even though
they're to the correct address. One in particular had attachments and has
been hanging in my outgoing box since July and I can't delete it. How do I
go about deleting it. Any any clues for the other intermittent problem?
