solution to his particualar problem worked

hi

thought I would let you know, but what
he/we ended up doing is uninstalling his virus (stop) program, uninstalled
8. IE worked, then he reinstalled 8, then reinstalled the program
and now he can use IE8 and has his attachments in email.
thought I would let you know. I know in some post you said norton's and
mcafee's does it, but I would say anyone that is
having any problems with attachments to uninstall whatever virus program
they have and then see if the attachements open
then install 8, and reinstall their virus program.. I know you shouldn't
generally cross post, but just in case someone is reading the thread in
vista mail

thanks for the assistance

You're welcome & thanks for your feedback.

Very generally speaking, one only needs to disable the anti-virus
application (and any real-time "system protections" afforded by the
anti-virus application, security suite, anti-spyware application, and/or
third-party firewall) prior to installing (or uninstalling) IE8
successfully. Disabling all this stuff can be close to impossible if you're
not intimately familar with the applications installed.
