SOLUTION: HOW TO UPDATE WINDOWS DEFENDER

A general message to anyone who has trouble with updates:

CONDITION:
1- Yellow icon keeps showing up in toolbar
2- Or Same update does not install when downloaded from Microsoft Updates

To UPDATE, first remove previous update by copying the following line, use
Start-> RUN and type or copy this line:

Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

Then, use Microsoft Update to install the update. It has worked every time
so far for me. I suggest a simple page be posted on here, but currently,
there is a larger one in the help section:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105.
Current version as of March 15, 2006 is:

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1186.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1315.1

REASON: Windows update does not uninstall the previous version yet,
therefore a new version cannot be installed. This is a simple step for any
user to perform in for beta program.

EXTRA NOTE: Keep an eye on your version in your menu. Open Windows defender
and look at the Signature Version at the bottom of the program. If the last 5
numbers are different from what you see above, check with Microsoft Update
program to see if a new version was installed.

You are most welcome! By the way... the newer version update should have the
problem corrected by now. I don't know how old your version is or if you just
downloaded it, but if you continue to need to do this, the newest version can
be found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en
.... but the engine may have updated for you... this is the most updated
version I believe as of 7/25/06 is:

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1508.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1637.1

This definition version was created on 7/25/06 at 2:11 PM...

Best wishes,
Jordan
