Error code 1603

I have tried everything I can think of or have seen to get the signatures to
update and all it has gotten me is:

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1303.0
Definition Version: 1.0.0.0

I have uninstalled, gone through my settings folders and deleted all
Defender folders, run windows install cleanup, run "msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}", run Regseeker, disabled NIS and
sypbot, reinstalled with the 4/12 version, run "msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}" again and I still fail!

The Event viewer shows success in the System Event.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following
update: Definition Update 1.14.1396.12 for BETA Windows Defender (KB915597)

However, the Application Event Fails.
Product: Windows Defender Signatures - Update 'Signature Update' could not
be installed. Error code 1603.

Why is Beta2 buggier than Beta1?

Hello Ben,

and if you go to the Windows update site do you get him there?
Did you try in WD the little arrow next to ? "About Windows Defender"
check for updates?

Tom,
I have both tried MicrosoftUpdate and the "About Windows Defender" update.
They both give me System Event Successful but the Application Event Fails.
Error code 1603. MicrosoftUpdate History shows that I have successfully
installed it multiple times....but Windows Defender never recognizes the
update.

Hello Ben,

Rebot in Safe-mode. And type in the box the following, and Enter
Start ->Run->msiexec /unreg
Start->Run->msiexec /regserver
Rebot, and Go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature
update with windows defender will fail until you have these files.

I hope this post is helpful.
Let us know how it works ºut.
