It may well have been that webhancer, its spyware that loads on startup and watches what ou do, popups etc....

Disabling the progs in msconfig can be a problem, its better to do it via the program itself.

Also, looking at my running processes, is there anything you feel is slowing down my computer? I dont want to stop anything cause it may be something really important!

Well sorry for getting my Oar in. Norton definately slows down system boots. It amazes me how much of a hold they have on preinstallation. Almost every high street shop where prebuild systems are found Norton is installed, they must be paying a fortune for it.

I wouldnt mind its slow, clumsy and cumbersome to say the least.

If I were you I would uninstall it ASAP and install something else that wont hammer your resources as much. All Norton does is continuelly take control from boot up to shut down.

Of course this is all your choice

Well said TD, i was just about to reply to this again...

My brother got a laptop from comet, (just went out and bought it, without consulting me!) it had norton preinstalled. The first thing i did was uninstall it and run the removal tool. (whats that about? If a program needs its own removal tool that cant be good can it!?) After it was all done i counted no less than 9 process' gone from taskmanager, (can you see the 9 you have?) and a very noticeable speed up in boot time, opening files and folders and web browsing. He dont game, but would imagine that it would have been bogging down the games too it it managed to slow everything else down as well.

Well read my post 17 again for a start. That will tell you how to remove ctfmon.exe. (pointless process)

If i were you, i'd uninstall acrobat reader and use foxit reader, download process explorer and see whats going on.

Then uninstall quicktime and install quicktime alternative.

Photoshop album starter is another waste (apdproxy.exe), i have PS CS3 and dont have that running. Separate program? Uninstall if you aint using it.

'mDNSResponder.exe' This is installed with Itunes crap from what i have read, more pointless crap... Just googled it and seems you can disable it in services.

You have an ipod i take it? use itunes?

Yep uninstalled that ctfmon when you said too ;)

Well I had an ipod untill it went bust, now just using iTunes because all my music is on there and seems the most simple program too use to keep it organised!

Ermm yeh I probably shall uninstall my Norton after seeing what you have wrote :p it's kinda of a virus itself when it comes to deleting the thing!

And I kinda do use Adobe Album Starter, its where all my camera pics and phone pics upload too! But i dont need it running all the time so shall try and stop it loading at boot up! :) x

Shush Belloni! Before I beat you up tomorow

now now children, theres no need for that

def get rid of norton, if not straight away then do it when your subscrition runs out, thats what i did and i've been happier ever since, its amazing how much of a difference removing it makes to your system

had to remove it from both of my sisters new laptops a long with all the other crap they insist on installing on new systems and they are both much faster at booting now

how much space is there on your C: ? my system slows up a fair amount the more crap i have on mine, also defragmenting helps
