Slow Response

I started experiencing very slow IE response. What I see is
the "progress bar ticks" moving, but it often just freezes.
It is not web site related, or network. I am going through
a router connected to a cable network. Other programs such
as file downloads on the same computer works fine. I think
it started this morning after I tried to use Microsoft
online method to turn on "Firewall". It does not make sense
but that is the only thing that changed today.
