Will a Network Coupler slow down that connection?

If I use a network coupler to join two cables together to connect a PC to our router, will it slow down that connection? I was told it could.
Thanks for any help chaps.

No, it won't. Well, not if it's a good quality connector anyway.

However, whilst a connector won't impede performance, lemgth of cable can. Any cable runs of more than 100 metres will need active repeaters to maintain signal strength.
