IE7 and Slow Cable Modem Connection

Yes I know this is an IE6 thread but there wasn't an IE7 thread available to
select from. So here is my question: Why are my connections to the Web
sites so SLOW? Often there is a noticable 'deadtime' before any activity
takes place and then usuallly another long pause or two during the download
when there is nothing going back and forth (both according to my modem's LEDs
and my firewall icon in the lower right hand tool bar (next to the time).

Here is my setup:
- M/S Windows XP Home Edition version 5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600
- IE7 version 7.0.5730.11 Build 75730
- Firewall ZoneAlarm Pro version:7.0.337.000
- Dell Dimension 4600C

While attempting dowloads, it sometimes helps during these 'hang-ups' if I
click on the refresh (counter green arrows) button at the top of the IE page.
Often it is like "oh yea, I was suppose to be downloading something". The
actual download speeds are great, very fast. It is just the pausing that
takes place that slows everything down and is so frustrating. Not sure
whether it is an IE7 issue or something the firewall is causing. Thanks for
any ideas.
