Slow Logon - Applying Computer Settings

Some of our users are experiencing very slow logons.
It always seems to occur on an Monday Morning (from an full shutdown).
The problem pcs just hang on "Applying Computer Settings" (between
5-15mins).

This never used to be an issue and nothing major has changed in the domain.

I have tried an few things:

Changed to Local Profile
Verbose Logging
Network Monitoring on DC's

Nothing seems to have solved the problem.

Any Ideas??

Virus scan? ChkDsk or similar running?

Once it has started up, if you shut it down and power off, does it take as
long when you switch it back on again?

Nothing major has changed... what about 'minor' changes?

You say "nothing seems to have solved the problem" but forgot to tell us
what you've tried. Normally slow logon such as you describe is caused by
incorrect DNS. Presumably - since things used to work - you have DNS set
up correctly with the server only looking to itself for DNS with
forward/reverse lookups set for Internet access. Since the workstations
must only look to the server for DNS, I'd check on those users' machines
to see if the DNS settings were changed.

DNS is set up correctly and has not been changed on both client and server.

The strangest thing is why has this started happening? All that has changed
on both Clients and Servers are the Windows Updates?

If you can work out which Windows Updates have been applied between it
working and not working, it might be worth searching for any known issues
caused by said updates in the areas you are experiencing problems...

Sorry, I don't know why this is happening because I can't see your
machines. I haven't had any problems with any of the clients I support
since the latest Windows Updates, but that doesn't mean something wasn't
b0rked for you.

You might want to look in the Windows Update newsgroup or open a free
support incident.
