Slow Domain Login (Applying Computer Setting)

R

Rajeev Dhungel

We have recently installed windows 2003 server and configured Active
Directory and have noticed that our Windows XP SP2 Windows XP SP3 clients are
booting very slowly and hand for
2-5 minutes on the "Applying Computer Settings" dialog.

We are using DHCP server which provides ip address and internal DNS server
(DNS server is same where active directory is configured) to client mechine.

I have read so many articles about "Applying Computer Settings" and
Active Directory that my head is spinning. Most of the articles
describe problems surrounding DNS, but I'm fairly confident that our
DNS is setup correctly. Our DNS servers run on same
Windows 2003 Server where we had configured active directory. We have
nothing in our Domain Default Group Policy also we have not configured any
group policy.

I did turn on verbose userenv logging on the xp clients,

Please provide to rectify this problem.

I want to post details of userenv.log. Please help to post details of
userenv.log or attach the file userenv.log.

Thanks in Advance

I want to add some more things. I found significant difference while I login
with domain administrator from client machine, it login fast no delay for
applying computer setting. Still client obtain IP address and DNS from DHCP
server while I used to login with domain administrator.

You say your DNS is set up correctly but it really sounds as though it
isn't. The server must look to itself for DNS with Internet access provided
by forward/reverse lookup zones. The workstations must only look to the
server for DNS.

Hi Malke,
Thanks for your reply.

DHCP server, DNS server and Domain controller are in same pc. This server IP
address is 192.168.0.2. DHCP server is configured as follows to obtain IP
address at client.

Address Pool: - From 192.168.0.150 to 192.168.0.250
There are only two scopes
a. Router :- 192.168.0.101
b. DNS Server :- 192.168.0.2

And client obtain IP address as well as DNS server IP address from DHCP
server so obviously client DNS server point to 192.168.0.2 which is local DNS
server and this DNS server is on same machine where Domain controller is
configured. Also this DNS server is created while we setup domain controller.
Now let me explain where we are wrong to saying that our DNS server is
configured correctly and workstation is getting the local IP address. So this
is not DNS concern issue.

I want to add some more things. I found significant difference while I login
with domain administrator from client machine, it login fast no delay for
applying computer setting. Still client obtain IP address and DNS from DHCP
server while I used to login with domain administrator.

Please help us to rectify this problem

Thanks in advance
