slow computer

Suddenly the computers been going mad. Its okay for a while but if i try to
go into my documents it goes really really slow and takes forever to do
anything, after a while i just need to reboot and i get 2 messages ccapp not
responding and browser not responding

please help as the blokes been dying to do a system restore for ages and now
he thinks hes found the excuse to do it
