sky ISP receiving mail

Smiler

Hi,
Just searching on an error for a mate can any one help. Is it the ISP's
fault ??
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Cheers Smiler

It could be a temporary server fault?

That type of error though can be caused by third party applications that are
set to scan email, such as Norton, McAfee and Trend.

Disable all mail scanning, it is an unnecessary tier of protection.
See:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Sky email settings for Sky are here, let them check the settings:

I ALSO TRIED TO UNINSTALL KB905866 BUT THERE'S BEEN ANOTHER UPDATE KB960544
SINCE THEN. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S WHY BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. FINALLY. I THOUGHT
I'D RESTORE TO 15FEB09 BUT AFTER WAITING FOR AGES IT TOLD ME THE RESTORE HAD
FAILED AND PUT ME BACK TO "LATEST" POSITION.
GREAT STEP FORWARD - I HAD MORE FUNCTIONALITY ON MY E-MAIL IN 1996 THAN I DO
NOW...CAN ANYBODY TELL ME HOW I CAN CONTACT SOMEBODY IN MICROSOFT TO FIX IT?

"Unexpected" termination is usually caused by interference from an
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

I managed to have a play with his system yesterday and changed the pop
server to imap.tools.sky.com (or whatever it was before just with the word
imap(not in front of his machine now)) and it worked fine. Can anyone
explain this as I'm clueless on this even the default in the box remained
pop3 as in "my incoming mail server is a POP3 server "
