Simple LAN setup instructions?

It is becoming apparent that I need to completely start over with my very
simple home network. (It no longer works) I only have a few computers
connected to a Netgear router. Is there a link to a set of simple directions
for configuring a home network out there? I like to think of myself as being
computer literate, but I cannot get system working again and I guess I'm an
idiot!
